Customizing an online social media strategy

July 17, 2009

RAFT is a nationally renowned leader in developing - and distributing at multiple stores across the country - curriculum for hands on learning.  But even a savvy and creative organization like RAFT can need help to navigate the sudden explosion of possibilities in the online social media world.

RAFT Executive Director, Mary Simon, heard of CWR through the Capacity Collaborative.  She asked us to provide guidance on how how tools like Facebook, Twitter, and others could benefit RAFT's mission.

One of the key benefits that any outside consultant can potentially bring is to step back and ask, "Why?" and "What are you trying to do?"  In the case of online social media, this is esepcially critical.  There can be this overwhelming push to start using these tools "because everyone is doing it," yet an overarching strategy and rationale can be missing.

CWR will be asking those questions and tailoring the answers for RAFT in a customized fashion.  We believe RAFT posesses some unique assets (such as a trove of curriculum produced in-house) that can be used to build broader awareness of RAFT online, if harnessed to the proper web based tools.

At the same time, we want to make sure that RAFT doesn't miss excellent opportunities for traditional fundraising, even if those opportunities don't involve the trendier world of social media.  For instance, we will be working with RAFT to restructure its hands-on volunteer experience so that it becomes more of a potential donor experience as well.

If you are looking for assistance in the new world of online social media, but from someone who has an eye on the bigger picture, please contact us.

Help One Child

We're a relatively small outfit. But Consulting Within Reach always treated us like we mattered a great deal. They were extremely attentive and patient. And they delivered expert results that were surprisingly affordable. With their report, we're armed to approach foundations in a whole new way.
