Safeguarding your intellectual assets

November 16, 2009

Opportunity Health Partners (OHP) is a recently formed provider of health care to the homeless in Palo Alto.  As such, it possesses a varied inventory of physical assets: drugs, medical equipment, property, and more.

But by far and away, the most valuable asset owned by the organization is the set of insights and principles behind its unique model.  OHP has figured out how to draw in institutions that otherwise don't have any direct connection with the homeless - institutions like Stanford University's Law School and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation - and turn them into providers for the wellbeing of this usually overlooked population.

Like most young organizations, however, OHP has been moving too fast to even fully articulate all the key principles behind its model.  CWR helped the organization turn its implicit knowledge into an explicit set of intellectual assets.  As outsiders coming in with a listening ear, discerning eye, and the perspective of having served many other nonprofits, we were able to analyze and describe their distinctive model better than they were able to do just by themselves.

This accomplishment is critical for OHP.  It will enable them to explain their distinctive value before foundations, make strategic decisions about partnerships, and eventually disseminate their model more broadly.

If you want help in safeguarding your most valuable asset, we're here to help.

Help One Child

We're a relatively small outfit. But Consulting Within Reach always treated us like we mattered a great deal. They were extremely attentive and patient. And they delivered expert results that were surprisingly affordable. With their report, we're armed to approach foundations in a whole new way.
